Biodiversity of the Far Eastern Region

Endemism
(by content of local endemics)

Taxus cuspidata

Amuriana schrenckii

The rate of endemism both on the local and global levels proves to what extent the condition of indigenous biodiversity will be determined by long-term conservation measures.
The main endemism center of the Far-Eastern ecoregion is located in its southern part. The overwhelming majority of the regional endemics belong to Priamursk-Manchzhur arealogical group. The highest content of provincial endemics among three model groups: arboreal plant, Diurnal Lepidoptera and birds is found at the area of broad-leaved forest prevailing. At the oceanside areas the share of endemics is also high in the territories adjacent to taiga and to southern dark coniferous forests.
